INFRARED THERMOGRAPHY SCANNING

Infrared thermography scanning is an effective non-evasive method of identifying underlying issues of a roof system including wet insulation, mildew, mould, rot, etc. It is a vital tool which assists us in determining cost effective roofing solutions including roof recovery, roof leak detection and insulation reutilization.

Infrared thermographic scans of a flat roof system works by identifying temperature variations within the roofing insulation. Insulation that contains moisture retains heat for a longer period of time than that of dry insulation. The scan is conducted during the evening when the roof is in the process of cooling down. Hot spots that show up on the infrared screen illustrate areas of insulation with retained heat and ultimately high moisture content.

Common applications include:

  • Energy loss audits
  • Location of damp, missing or defective insulation
  • Roof leak detection
  • Insulation damage assessment
  • Possible areas of mould, mildew and rot formation
